BIO

Raised in Nevada City, CA, Joe Bourdet is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose music inhabits the mythic terrain of California’s golden-hour past—sun-drenched canyons, high desert plains, and the quiet solace of pine-covered mountains. Based in Los Angeles, Bourdet draws from the rich lineage of Laurel Canyon folk-rock and cosmic Americana, weaving intricate arrangements, poetic lyricism, and vintage analog textures into a sound that feels both timeless and immediate.

His 2021 debut album Meadow Rock marked the arrival of a distinctive voice—one steeped in reverence for the songwriting craft and sonic sensibilities of artists like Neil Young, Gene Clark, and Jackson Browne, but with a contemporary lens. The record, tracked to tape using all analog gear, received acclaim for its warmth, depth, and evocative songwriting. From the swirling pedal steel of “El Capitan” to the sunlit introspection of “Songbird Revisited,” Bourdet channels landscapes both emotional and geographic, inviting listeners into a deeply immersive world.A meticulous arranger and self-taught studio craftsman, Bourdet’s recordings reflect a rare level of care and patience, often layering acoustic guitar, Mellotron, Wurlitzer, and vocal harmonies into lush yet intimate compositions. His songs explore themes of solitude, memory, the sacredness of nature, and the search for truth in a disoriented world.

In live performance, Bourdet is equally at home in solo acoustic settings or backed by a full band of seasoned musicians, delivering shows that are heartfelt, transportive, and rich in atmosphere. He has shared the stage with fellow torchbearers of the new California sound such as Mapache, Sam Burton, and Pacific Range. With new recordings underway and a growing presence in both the U.S. and European folk rock scenes, Joe Bourdet stands as a vital voice in the revival of authentic, roots-oriented music. His songs don’t just recall the past—they offer a refuge from the present and a glimpse into a more grounded, luminous way of being.
